HAUS 114
Haus 114 is a compact contribution to neighbourhood densification in Heidelberg, in the heart of the Rhine-Neckar region. The site currently hosts a severely dilapidated old building from the late 19th century, whose structural condition no longer permits economically viable renovation. In its place, a new building is planned that reflects the client’s desire for a contemporary, high-quality rental apartment building.
Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that the building integrates harmoniously into the existing context while also enhancing the local housing supply—especially for young families seeking suitable living spaces in the region.
The project is a representative example of the widely prevalent type of multi-family housing in Germany the "Mehrfamilienhaus"- stacked residential units across three to four floors, accessed via a central staircase. Through a reduced and carefully selected material palette, Haus 114 achieves a contemporary yet restrained reinterpretation of this classic building type.
